ELDEE AND RITA DOMINIC TO HOST THIS YEAR'S HIP HOP AWARD
Award winning actress Rita Dominic and celebrated artiste Eldee will host the 2011 edition of the Headies. In its continuing commitment to the promotion and development of urban music Smooth Promotions, announces the two reputable performers signed to anchor this year’s show.
In a news release early this week, executive producer Ayo Animashaun says Eldee and Rita Dominic – The veteran musician and respected actress are the ‘‘perfect’’ choice to host this year’s show.
Ayo Animashaun who is the CEO of Smooth promotions said in a statement released on Monday ‘‘I can exclusively tell you Rita Dominic and Eldee have signed on to host the Headies awards. We are energized by our choice of hosts and we are confident with both of them anchoring the show our audience will have fantastic moments and an amazing show. Be assured this duo brings the perfect mix of elegance and sophistication that will set the tone for an amazing show. Preparations are in top gear and we are once again presenting you with the biggest faces that you know to host the 6th edition of the Headies awards and it will be amazing’’ said Ayo Animashaun who founded the awards in 2006.According to organizers, Eldee was a natural selection as host given his pedigree has a long standing successful music artiste and producer, while his co-host for the big night Rita Dominic is one of Nigeria’s biggest stars with a huge followership on the big and small screen.
Eldee, born Olanrewaju Dabiri is widely known by the moniker eLDee and is one of the earliest pioneers of hip hop music in Nigeria. He is a well respected artiste and music producer who released several chart topping songs and albums to much critical acclaim.
Rita Dominic exemplifies the perfect example of how a talented young girl can rise to become a household name in Nollywood with a long line of blockbuster movies to her credit. She starred in her first movie in 1998 and has since emerged as one of Nollywood’s biggest exports.
Hailed for one-of-a-kind moments, elegant fashion displays, and five star musical performances, the Headies (also refered to as Hip Hop World Awards) has produced some of the most unforgettable moments in the history of award shows in Nigeria. The annual music event is ranked among the top award shows in Africa.
The selection of the siren and the celebrated musician as masters of ceremonies for the high-profile event can best be described as a ‘‘plus’’ for this year’s edition which organizers have promised would be a wonderful experience for entertainment enthusiasts in Nigeria.
It’s the second time a movie personality will be host after fellow Nollywood actress Dakore co-hosted alongside Basketmouth in 2008.
Eldee and Rita Dominic follow in the footsteps of names such as Darey in 2006, Dbanj and Tana who served as hosts in 2007, Dakore and Basketmouth in 2008, Banky W and Kemi Adetiba in 2009 all of whom have hosted the awards show in the past years. The Headies (also known as Hip Hop World Awards) was created by Ayo Animashaun in 2006 as a platform to recognize and celebrate musical talents with the best, offering every calendar year with a total of twenty-two 21 carat gold award plaques to reward deserving artistes amid over 8,000 entries received every year.

2011 SPRITE TRIPPLE SLAM !!!!!
Sprite, the world’s number one lemon and lime flavoured sparkling beverage from the stable of The Coca-Cola Company has activated the popular Sprite Triple Slam (STS) for the fourth straight year in line with the brand’s promise of creatively engaging its target audience consistently. The activation which is a unique and exciting fusion of skill and dexterity in basketball, music and dance, embodies the free spirited and spark up creative attitude of the Sprite brand.
Speaking at the media briefing heralding the activation in Lagos, Mr. Austin Ufomba, Marketing Director of Coca-Cola Nigeria said the Sprite Triple Slam is targeted at the youth on campuses across Nigeria and is designed to stimulate out-of-the-box thinking and self-expression as well as to spark up creativity and unleash the ingenuity embedded in the average Nigerian youth.
Also speaking on the event, Bolajoko Bayo-Ajayi, Strategic Marketing Manager (Flavours), said the Sprite brand encapsulates the attitude and way of life of the urbane youth. According to her “Sprite stands for the attitude, edginess and swagger of the urbane youth and initiated the Sprite Triple Slam to further strengthen its connection with consumers. It is hinged on the three passion points of today’s youth; dance, music and basketball.”
On why the game of Basketball was chosen over other games, she stated that the game of basketball has a culture which embodies everything the urbane youth stands for. The sagged jeans, punk hairstyles, tattoo and dare-to-do-attitude that is associated with the game and its heroes. “It is this spirit which is common to both the game and the brand and for this reason the game of basketball was chosen over others for the Sprite Triple Slam.”
Throwing light on the timelines for the activation across the country, Toyin Nnodi, Brand Manager, Flavours said the digital campaign for STS has already kicked off on www.facebook.com/tripleslam so also is the SMS platform which will serve as a veritable tool for registration for the competition nationwide.
In line with this, regional activations will begin with Enugu activation on July 1, Calabar activation will be on July 8 while Abuja and Lagos activations will be held on the July 15 and 22, respectively. The grand finale where the overall winners for each category would be chosen will hold in Lagos on August 8, 2011. Nnodi stated that there is a slight modification of the activation this year, “Contestants will compete as individuals in the three categories of basketball, dance and music and will be rewarded in individual capacity unlike in previous editions of the Sprite Triple Slam where registration, performance and rewards were team based. The cash prizes of N1 million for each contestant however remains unchanged.”
The Brand Manager added that “Sprite is the number one lemon and lime beverage drink in the world and it is also number one in terms of consumer engagement because it refreshes physically and uplifts that spark of creativity in you which is what the Sprite Triple Slam contestants demonstrate through basketball, music and dance. Sprite is about the urban culture. Sprite is very edgy and is a brand that depicts consumer lifestyle while consistently connecting with them”.
It would be recalled that in the 2010 edition of competition was won by the “Street Maniac” from Calabar, Cross River State. The group was made up of Olubo Olabode Cross River State University of Technology, Ichire Nsor Cross River State University of Technology, Louis Martins University of Calabar, Adegbe Ikwue Adegbe, Federal University of Technology, Minna; Unyime Otuokon Fred, University of Calabar and Ayeabie Behakongevers; University of Calabar. They later released a single titled “No Fall My Hand” and a basketball themed music video of the same title.
The 2010 edition of the competition was hosted by Kevin Chuwang Pam of the Big Brother Africa fame, the activations also had Eldee the Don (an artist and music producer), Michael Egbebor of the DNMT dance group fame, and Bolaji Akiode, a female basketballer who has represented Nigeria at the Olympics as Judges. MI, Nigeria’s finest hip hop rapper and Wande Coal, of the Mo Hit music label performed as Guest artistes while music was provided by Africa’s best, D.J Jimmy Jatt. The activation, which was held in partnership with MTV, lived up to its billings as thousands of fans stormed the various venues of the activation

K.C of K.C PRESH ALSo release his new single
it’s like they broke up and got on their respective grinds. KC of defunct group, KC Presh drops his own new joint “Okpekete” which should be featured on his upcoming album.
Pretty hot joint, and one that will no doubt make its rounds.
With all the hits KC Presh have together you hate to see such break ups happen, but sometimes it’s understandable.
